NEW DEHLI: A senior Congress leader has demanded answers from the Modi government over what he called a “deeply concerning mismatch” in military spending during recent anti-drone operations along the India-Pakistan border.
According to Indian media reports, Vijay Wadettiwar, a prominent Congress figure, criticized the government for allegedly firing missiles worth ₹15 lakh to shoot down drones that reportedly cost as little as ₹15,000 each. He claimed that Pakistan had deployed around 5,000 low-cost, China-made drones, and raised questions over the financial and strategic logic of India’s response.
Wadettiwar has called on the government to clarify the total cost of the operation and detail any damages or casualties incurred. “Was any Rafale jet shot down? How many soldiers were injured or lost their lives? And why was a ceasefire agreed upon at the insistence of the United States?” he asked, voicing public concern over transparency.
The remarks come amid rising tensions and renewed political debate over India’s defence posture, with critics accusing the Modi administration of prioritizing optics over accountability. “The people of India deserve to know the truth,” Wadettiwar added.
