SUKKUR: In a major development, the Registrar of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, has registered an FIR (No. 65/2026) under sections 420, 486, 471, and 500 of the Pakistan Penal Code against 130 individuals for obtaining fake degrees.
The accused hail from Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan, and are alleged to have received fraudulent degrees, including LLB, LLM, BA, BSc, BCom, and other master’s programs, issued between 1994 and 2024. Notably, the FIR does not name any SALU employees; all accused are private individuals who obtained the degrees.
The Vice Chancellor, on orders from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), has appointed Professors Dr. Farman Ali Mangi and Dr. Muzaffar Sarohi to head the probe committee. An internal committee has also been formed to identify university staff who may have facilitated the issuance of fake degrees.
Sources indicate that the scandal could have wider implications, potentially affecting PA and NA seats, as well as officials holding BPS-19 and 20 positions who may have obtained degrees fraudulently. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other authorities are also investigating the matter.
