NEW DELHI: At least 18 Indian-flagged vessels carrying energy supplies have become stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns of a worsening energy situation in India, according to NDTV.
The report said the vessels, loaded with LPG, crude oil and LNG, are currently unable to pass through the vital shipping route amid heightened regional tensions. The disruption has sparked fears of supply constraints and potential pressure on India’s energy sector.
NDTV added that Iran has indicated that only ships from “friendly countries” may be allowed to transit the strait, subject to coordination with Iranian authorities, further complicating the situation for Indian shipments.
The development follows an earlier statement by India’s shipping ministry last month, which said two Indian LPG tankers had successfully passed through the strait, with one docking at Mumbai and the other at New Mangalore port.
Analysts warn that prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor, could significantly impact regional energy flows, increase prices, and deepen supply challenges for major import-dependent economies like India.
