ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad to review measures aimed at ensuring economic stability and providing relief to the public amid rising global tensions.
The prime minister said consultations are ongoing on further steps to support citizens given the evolving global situation. He noted that timely government decisions have ensured the continuous availability of petroleum products across Pakistan.
Economic stability and public relief remain the government’s top priorities, he added, emphasizing that all measures are being taken with both immediate and long-term goals in mind. National-level austerity and savings measures have already been implemented, and additional initiatives are under consideration to address potential challenges arising from global developments.
Officials briefed the meeting on petroleum reserves, required imports, and measures to ensure fuel availability. A third-party audit has been directed to verify the implementation of all austerity and cost-saving measures. Petroleum distribution companies have also been instructed to maintain transparency and sell fuel at government-notified prices.
A feature has been added to the Pak App allowing consumers to report fuel shortages or overpricing nationwide, enabling authorities to take immediate corrective action. Participants appreciated the prime minister’s recent decision not to increase petroleum prices further.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, and senior officials from relevant institutions.
