KARACHI: At least 22 people were injured in incidents of aerial firing reported from different parts of Karachi as the city welcomed the New Year, according to Chhipa sources. The injured were shifted by Chhipa ambulances to Civil Hospital, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Darul Sehat Hospital and Dow Hospital for treatment.

The injured included men, women and children who were hit by stray bullets in residential and commercial areas of the city. Those injured ranged in age from eight to 65 years and included residents of Chiniot Goth, Golimar, New Sabzi Mandi, Korangi, Liaquatabad, Lyari, North Nazimabad, Gulberg, Mahmoodabad, Qayyumabad, Maripur, Lines Area and other localities.

Among the injured were 36-year-old Mukhtar in Chiniot Goth, 33-year-old Nabeel in Golimar, 40-year-old Nek Muhammad near the New Sabzi Mandi, 20-year-old Ahmed in Korangi, 30-year-old Muhammad Aslam near Chaman Cinema, 11-year-old Meh Jabeen in Korangi K-Area, and eight-year-old Fareeha near Safoora. Several women were also injured, including 40-year-old Alina in Qayyumabad, 45-year-old Shameem in Gulzar Hijri, and 53-year-old Meraj Bano in Lines Area.

Hospital data showed that 10 injured were taken to Jinnah Hospital, seven to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, three to Civil Hospital, one to Darul Sehat and one to Dow Hospital. No fatalities were reported in connection with the incidents.

Chhipa sources confirmed that the total number of injured stood at 22, including 14 men, six women and two girls. Authorities once again appealed to citizens to refrain from aerial firing, warning that the practice continues to pose a serious threat to public safety despite repeated bans and awareness campaigns.
