KARACHI: The Pakistan Japan Cultural Association (PJCA) Sindh, in collaboration with the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi and under the patronage of the Consulate General of Japan in Karachi, hosted the 38th Annual Urdu Haiku Mushaira on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Haseena Moin Hall, Arts Council of Pakistan.
The event was coordinated by Ms. Wazahat Naseem and presided over by Mr. Firasat Rizvi, while the Consul General of Japan in Karachi attended as the Chief Guest. Proceedings began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Mr. Saleem Ahmed, General Secretary of PJCA Sindh, followed by a welcome address by Mr. Azmat Ataka, First Vice President of PJCA Sindh. Mr. Ataka expressed gratitude to the Consul General of Japan, the Arts Council of Pakistan, and Hamdard Group for their support, including providing gift hampers for the participating poets.
A total of 21 poets presented their Urdu haiku at the Mushaira, including Dr. Abda Ghanghro, Afzal Hazarvi, Hameeda Kashish, Dr. Jamal Naqvi, Kazunori Matsuda, Khalida Uzma, Naseem Nazish, Rubina Tahseen Bina, Dr. Saeed Ahmed Saadi, Sarwar Shamal, Seher Ali, Shah Fahad, Shahabuddin Shahab, Shahida Israr, Shahzad Niaz, Shair Ali Shair, Sohail Ahmed Siddiqui, Syed Meraj Jami, Wazahat Naseem, Yasmeen Yas, and Zahid Hussain Zahid Jauhri.
The Mushaira concluded with the presidential address and a haiku reading by Mr. Firasat Rizvi. The event was widely appreciated for its smooth organization, rich literary content, and the celebration of Urdu haiku as a unique poetic form, drawing poets, literary figures, and enthusiasts from across Karachi.
