SUKKUR: Ninety percent of the rainwater has been drained from Khairpur city and its adjoining areas. Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Syed Ahmed Fawad Shah inspected most parts of Khairpur, including Kot Diji, on Monday. He stated that no dams in Khairpur have broken; however, 90 percent of the rainwater has been drained. He advised people living in the bed of the Indus River to move to safer locations due to rising water levels in the river. During the inspection, he directed officials and the chairmen of the municipal and town committees to take all necessary measures to drain the water from low-lying areas. He also instructed them to ensure fumigation to protect rain victims and their children from potential outbreaks of diarrhea and other infectious diseases.
The water level in the Indus River rose after continuous rain for eight hours in Mohenjo-Daro and surrounding areas. Many villages in low-lying areas near Balhariji Patan were submerged. Water from Dargah Noor Shah inundated cotton fields, completely submerging the crops, while pressure on the protection dams continues. Due to the flooding in the Indus River, more than 30 villages in the Katcha areas have begun migrating, as their rice crops have been submerged. Villagers reported that crops worth millions of rupees have been lost, and valuable household items have also been washed away. They mentioned that the administration of Larkana has yet to provide assistance.
