KARACHI: More than five million textbook sets have been prepared for the 2026–27 academic year, the Sindh Textbook Board has said, as the provincial government moves to ensure schools receive books before the new term begins.
The announcement came as Syed Sardar Ali Shah attended a distribution ceremony at the Government Girls Lower Secondary School in Neelam Colony, Clifton, in Karachi. The minister formally inaugurated the distribution of new textbooks.
Officials said the board had published 195 titles, covering early childhood education through to grade 10. The books are available in Sindhi, Urdu and English.
Shah said the delivery process to schools had begun and would be completed before 1 April 2026. He added that the board was now “back on the right track” after years of delays that often left students without textbooks at the start of the academic year.
The minister said the long-standing problem of shortages at the beginning of term had now been addressed. He also outlined broader reforms in the education sector. “The purpose of education is not rote learning,” he said, “but to develop the ability to question and think.”
The government has also introduced financial autonomy in secondary schools, he said, with funds to be released on the basis of performance.
