
LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a critical flood warning for Punjab due to expected high to extremely high flood levels in the region’s hill torrents, particularly influenced by continuous rainfall in the Koh-e-Suleiman mountainous areas. The PDMA has raised alarms as water flow in these areas steadily increases, prompting urgent action from local authorities.
PDMA spokespersons reported that Director General Irfan Kathia has instructed all relevant administrations to remain on high alert. An official alert has been sent to the Commissioner of Dera Ghazi Khan and district commissioners to prepare for potential flooding scenarios. Emergency control room staff are advised to stay vigilant to ensure a swift response to any emerging situation.
Rescue 1122 disaster response teams have been placed on high alert, with DG Kathia stressing the need for adequate fuel supplies to support rescue operations. He emphasized the importance of keeping citizens informed about the developing situation to ensure public safety. The PDMA has prioritized the evacuation of people and livestock from riverbanks, urging effective communication of safety measures to the public.
Additionally, the PDMA has mandated that flood relief camps be well-stocked with food, clean drinking water, and other essential supplies. DG Kathia highlighted the importance of public compliance with safety precautions, reinforcing that effective communication and preparedness are crucial to safeguarding communities during this critical period.
