TORKHAM: A significant protest erupted at the Torkham border as laborers voiced their frustrations over alleged harassment and stringent measures imposed by multiple authorities, including the Frontier Corps (FC), Customs, and the National Logistics Cell (NLC). The workers, who are crucial to the operation and maintenance of this key border crossing, have been displaying black flags to signal their deep discontent with the current situation.

The protestors have reported experiencing deteriorating working conditions and mistreatment from border authorities. Their grievances include allegations of unjust treatment, excessive scrutiny, and harsh working conditions, which they claim have worsened over recent months. Key demands from the laborers include immediate improvements in their working environment, fair treatment, and enhanced protection of their rights. They are seeking an official response from higher authorities to address these concerns and provide relief.

In a bid to escalate their protest, the laborers have announced that they will observe August 14 as a “Black Day” if their demands are not addressed. This symbolic protest is intended to draw attention to their plight and signal the seriousness of their grievances. Moreover, the workers have threatened to initiate a prolonged sit-in protest at the Torkham border if their issues remain unresolved. This action would significantly disrupt border operations and could impact trade and transport in the region.

As the situation continues to develop, the laborers are awaiting a response from higher authorities, hoping for a swift resolution to their concerns and an improvement in their working conditions. The protest reflects broader issues of worker rights and conditions that could have wider implications for border management and labor relations in the region.
