KARACHI: An important session of the Local Government Commission was convened on Monday, chaired by Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani. The meeting, attended by key figures including Additional Secretary Local Government Syed Khalid Haider Shah, members Abdul Rahim Soomro, Waseem Ahmed Arsani, and Ali Ahmed Baloch, as well as Secretary Law, DG Commission Abubakar Madani, Town Chairman Ibrahim Hyderi Town Nazir Baloch, Municipal Commissioner, and Municipal Commissioner Gadap Ahmed Yar, addressed several pressing issues.
A primary focus of the meeting was the ongoing dispute over livestock tax collection between Gadap and Ibrahim Hyderi towns. Representatives from both towns presented their positions, and after detailed discussions, the Provincial Minister emphasized the Commission’s commitment to resolving the matter legally. Ghani noted that both towns had previously been advised to settle the issue through mutual consultation, but this recommendation had not been acted upon.
Consequently, the Commission has set a deadline of August 20 for the towns to resolve the dispute collaboratively and submit their findings. A final decision will be made by the Commission following this deadline. Additionally, the meeting tackled disputes in Shah Faisal and Korangi towns. The Commission has directed the Secretary Law and two members to engage separately with the chairmen of these towns, prepare a comprehensive report, and submit it to the Commission for further consideration.
