Sattar criticizes Karachi’s neglect despite economic contributions

KARACHI: Dr. Farooq Sattar, a senior leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan, has expressed deep concern over the neglect faced by Karachi, despite the city’s significant financial contributions to the country. Speaking at a press conference held for the Green Pakistan Mission in Liaquatabad Town, Sattar criticized the stark contrast between Karachi’s substantial tax contributions and its deteriorating infrastructure and rising crime rates.

Sattar highlighted that Karachi’s economic support is vital for major cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Peshawar, yet Karachi itself is deprived of its fair share of benefits. Reflecting on the city’s current state, he noted that during the MQM era, Karachi did not experience such severe conditions. He emphasized the urgency of addressing these issues, stating, “The city of Karachi is being exploited, and it is time to demand our rights.” In light of the broader political and economic challenges facing the nation, Sattar called for a unified effort among political leaders to address these crises. He pointed out the increasing shortages of essential resources such as electricity, gas, and water. To address Karachi’s environmental concerns, Sattar proposed an innovative initiative: planting mango seeds from the current season in local parks, envisioning that Karachi could become a “Mango City” in five years.

Additionally, Dr. Sattar criticized the government’s handling of employment opportunities, mentioning MQM’s successful advocacy for 15,000 jobs that were previously misallocated by a biased administration. These positions are anticipated to benefit Karachi’s youth. Sattar concluded his remarks by urging immediate and substantial actions to resolve Karachi’s issues. He promised that MQM would persist in its efforts to secure a major water project for the city. Emphasizing the importance of unity among political parties, he called for collective action to ensure Karachi receives its rightful share of resources and attention.
