KARACHI: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar has strongly dismissed recent media reports suggesting that Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori is slated to be replaced by Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) leader Bashir Memon. This speculation, which had been widely reported in recent days, was categorically refuted by Dar during a television interview.
Senator Dar clarified that Kamran Tessori, who represents the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), will continue to serve as the Governor of Sindh. Dar stated, “There is no truth in the news of Bashir Memon being appointed as the Governor of Sindh,” emphasizing that Tessori remains in his current position.
The rumors regarding a potential change in the governorship gained traction following reports from various media outlets, which suggested that the PML-N was considering a replacement for Tessori. The speculation led to considerable political conjecture and uncertainty.
In response to these rumors, MQM-P chief Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui also addressed the situation, describing the reports as unfounded. Siddiqui emphasized, “No such consultation has taken place regarding the governorship, so there is no truth in these reports.” He further reiterated MQM-P’s stance that Tessori’s position as Governor is secure and confirmed that no discussions or decisions have been made concerning his replacement.
Governor Kamran Tessori, a prominent figure within MQM-P, has been serving in his role since his appointment in 2022. His tenure has been marked by his involvement in key political and administrative matters in Sindh. The Governor’s role is particularly significant given the province’s strategic and economic importance, and any changes in this position would be of considerable public and political interest.
