LAHORE: On Sunday, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Atta Ullah Tarar, expressed a firm commitment to advocating for the rights of minorities during a ceremony marking Minority Day at Model Town. Emphasizing his dedication, Tarar vowed to use every available platform to ensure the protection and promotion of minority rights in Pakistan.
Addressing the attendees, Tarar underscored the vital role of minorities in the nation’s development, prosperity, and peace-building efforts. “We are immensely proud of the minorities in Pakistan. The white color in our national flag symbolizes the inclusivity and contribution of minority communities. They have consistently played a constructive role in our society,” he remarked.
The Federal Minister emphasized the government’s stance on safeguarding minority rights, stating that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed parliamentarians to be actively involved in defending these rights both within and beyond the parliamentary framework. “Our government stands as the guarantor of every citizen’s rights, including those of our minority communities,” Tarar affirmed.
In his speech, Tarar highlighted his personal connection with Lahore’s minority communities, noting his representation of 70,000 Christian voters in his constituency. He acknowledged the support and love he has received from this community and expressed his readiness to assist them in times of need. “Whenever there is an issue or if the community feels apprehensive, we are here to encourage them and amplify their voices,” he said.
Tarar further praised Prime Minister Sharif’s emphasis on tolerance and interfaith harmony, recognizing it as a cornerstone of the government’s approach to minority issues. He concluded his address by expressing gratitude to the participants of the ceremony and the minority communities for their significant contributions to the country. “Pakistan belongs to everyone, including minorities. The white in our flag represents you, and we are proud of your contributions,” he stated.
In a symbolic gesture, Tarar recited poetry by a Sikh poet and chanted the slogan, “Long live Pakistan, long live the minorities of Pakistan,” reflecting his support for unity and inclusivity in the nation.
