In a powerful address to the National Ulema Convention in Islamabad, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir vowed unwavering resistance against those seeking to create chaos and disrupt Pakistan’s unity. He declared, “We do not recognize those who do not adhere to Sharia and the Constitution as Pakistanis,” underscoring his commitment to upholding the nation’s values and legal framework. General Munir emphasized the gravity of corruption and turmoil, which he described as the gravest sins in the eyes of Allah. He highlighted the Pakistan Army’s relentless efforts to combat such disruption in line with divine directives. Reflecting on Pakistan’s longstanding hospitality towards millions of Afghan refugees over the past four decades, he urged them to avoid opposing their neighbor, a brotherly Islamic nation and longtime ally, for the sake of extremist agendas. He lauded the sacrifices of the Pashtun community and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fight against terrorism, affirming the army’s solidarity with their efforts while condemning the extremist elements as significant threats.
Addressing the issue of social media’s role in spreading discord, General Munir criticized the use of these platforms to incite unrest and pointed to criminal and smuggling mafias as supporting terrorism. He also firmly defended the sanctity of the Prophet Muhammad’s honor, stating that no one would dare to insult the Prophet in Pakistan. He pledged that those who attempt to incite disorder in Pakistan will be met with resolute opposition. “No power in the world can harm Pakistan,” he asserted, emphasizing that the country was established to endure, with countless sacrifices from figures like himself, politicians, and scholars. The General reiterated the importance of maintaining Pakistan’s ideological foundations, established under the leadership of the founding fathers, Muhammad Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He recalled the sacrifices made by millions of Muslims in the subcontinent, driven by the Two-Nation Theory, which laid the foundation for an independent and sovereign Pakistan.
This theory emerged as a response to the economic oppression by Hindus and the British, who had curtailed the Muslims’ religious freedoms, employment opportunities, and basic rights, forcing them to seek a separate homeland. Following Pakistan’s establishment, Quaid-e-Azam Jinnah, had he lived longer, would have laid a strong economic foundation for the country. However, after his death just a year post-independence, his vision for an Islamic, democratic, and welfare-oriented system was undermined by self-serving politicians with colonial mentalities. These forces, alongside ideological adversaries, sought to destabilize Pakistan, fearing its potential as a center for the revival of Islamic values. The discriminatory mindset of some Indian leaders, who dreamt of a unified India, led them to conspire against Pakistan, a plot supported by atheist forces. Despite these efforts, Pakistan has remained resilient.
General Munir recounted how India instigated three wars against Pakistan, with the 1971 war leading to the creation of Bangladesh. Despite this, the Two-Nation Theory endured, as evidenced by the recent political upheaval in Bangladesh, where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s actions against the legacy of her father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reinforced the theory’s validity and shattered the dream of a unified India. The General asserted that Pakistan’s revival of Islamic values has been a source of concern for India and other secular forces, who have continued their efforts to undermine Pakistan’s security. India’s support for terrorism through its “RAW” network and its involvement in destabilizing Pakistan through trained terrorists are notable examples. Despite these challenges, including the infiltration of hostile elements into Pakistan and attacks on its security forces, General Munir reaffirmed the army’s commitment to defending the nation’s borders. In response to recent events, including the May 9 and 10 attacks, General Munir condemned the planning of these acts, acknowledging the admission and conditional apology from the founder of the PTI party. He emphasized the army’s readiness to confront and neutralize threats to Pakistan’s security, affirming that the nation’s integrity and stability remain paramount.
