KARACHI: Altaf Ali has been handed a nine-year prison sentence by the Judicial Magistrate East in Karachi for his involvement in the unauthorized distribution of explicit photographs of a female TikTok star. In addition to the prison term, Ali has been fined 60,000 rupees. Failure to pay the fine will result in further imprisonment.
The case emerged after the TikTok star lodged a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle. According to her report, Ali invited her to his residence under the pretense of discussing a project. During the visit, Ali is alleged to have drugged the juice he served, causing her and her mother to lose consciousness. Upon waking, they found explicit photos of themselves on Ali’s phone, which had been shared with others.
The prosecution presented substantial evidence linking Ali to the severe invasion of the victim’s privacy. The court found him guilty under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), which addresses offenses related to digital privacy and cybercrimes.
This sentencing underscores the escalating legal consequences for breaches of digital privacy. It highlights the increasing severity of repercussions for crimes involving the misuse of personal information. The case serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting digital privacy in an age where such violations are increasingly common. The successful prosecution by the FIA Cyber Crime Circle underscores a broader commitment to combating cybercrimes and safeguarding individuals from such violations.
