
SUKKUR: The Sukkur Lawyers Alliance (SLA) has expressed strong support for the military’s recent decision to initiate court martial proceedings against retired Major General Faiz Hameed and three other former army officers. The SLA views these actions as a positive step towards upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability within the military ranks.
Speaking at an Independence Day event organized by the SLA on Friday, President Pir Sayed Sardar Ali Jillani commended the military for prioritizing self-accountability. Jillani praised the court martial proceedings, describing them as a significant move towards accountability and a necessary measure to curb discord within the country. He highlighted the Supreme Court’s role in ensuring adherence to the rule of law by both the government and the military establishment.
“This act of self-accountability is commendable and needs to be lauded,” Jillani stated. He emphasized that while the country faces numerous challenges, these issues must be addressed collectively to secure a prosperous, sustainable, and peaceful future for the next generations. General Secretary Advocate Farzand Ali Abro, Vice President Advocate Raja Rameez Shaikh, and other SLA members also endorsed the military’s decision. They described the arrests as timely and necessary, reflecting a positive step towards restoring accountability within the institution.
