KARACHI: On World Humanitarian Day, Dr. Fouzia Siddiqui, Chairperson of the Global Aafia Movement, has called for a global commitment to humanitarian values, emphasizing the need for a justice-based system to create an ideal society. In a statement released by the Aafia Movement’s media cell, Dr. Siddiqui condemned the ongoing torture of her sister, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, alongside the brutal violence in Gaza and attacks on humanitarian volunteers. She asserted that these acts have brought shame to humanity and urged the international community to act decisively to end wars and assist innocent victims.
Dr. Siddiqui highlighted Dr. Aafia’s extensive involvement in charitable activities, both in Pakistan and the United States, which reflected her deep commitment to humanitarianism. She emphasized that Dr. Aafia is innocent, with numerous American legal experts denouncing her 86-year prison sentence as unjust. Clive Smith is actively advocating for her release, underscoring the widespread belief in her innocence.
For over 21 years, Dr. Aafia has endured severe torture in various prisons and detention centers. Dr. Fouzia Siddiqui has appealed to the Pakistani government to take effective measures to secure Dr. Aafia’s release and her safe return to Pakistan, reiterating the call for her freedom on humanitarian grounds.
