LAHORE: On the directive of the imprisoned founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, a significant opposition rally is set to take place in Tarnol, Islamabad on Thursday. The rally, organized under the banner of Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) and led by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, marks a crucial moment in the ongoing political struggle in Pakistan.

On Tuesday, a pivotal meeting was convened to finalize preparations for the event. The meeting, chaired by Achakzai, was attended by prominent opposition figures including PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan, former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Sunni Ittehad Council Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and PTI leader Shibli Faraz, among others.

During the meeting, participants meticulously reviewed the logistical arrangements and discussed the current political landscape, particularly in light of recent developments involving Imran Khan’s legal battles. The opposition leaders collectively reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the rally remains peaceful and highlighted the constitutional right of citizens to hold such demonstrations. Omar Ayub Khan expressed optimism regarding the rally’s potential impact, stating, “Tehreek-e-Insaf’s rallies have always been peaceful. We will persist in our efforts to restore the constitution and the rule of law in Pakistan.

A nationwide campaign against the government will be announced soon.” His comments underscored the opposition’s determination to challenge what they view as governmental overreach and to advocate for constitutional integrity. The meeting also voiced concerns over the actions and conduct of both the government and Parliament. PTI Punjab Information Secretary Shaukat Mehmood Basra emphasized the significance of the upcoming rally, describing it as a historic event with anticipated participation from PTI supporters and workers nationwide.

“This rally will mark the beginning of our renewed struggle for the release of Imran Khan and other detained leaders,” Basra asserted. He urged PTI leaders and supporters, particularly from Punjab, to mobilize for the rally, emphasizing that it would be a peaceful demonstration featuring families and members of civil society.

Basra further highlighted the party’s ongoing commitment to advocating for the release of its leaders, including Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, and former Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema. “We will raise our voices at every forum until justice is served,” he concluded, signaling PTI’s continued efforts to challenge the government’s actions and seek redress for their detained leaders.
