LAHORE: Punjab recorded eight new dengue cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases reported in the province this year to 296, according to the Department of Primary and Secondary Healthcare. This latest surge includes 36 new cases identified over the past week, highlighting the ongoing challenge of controlling the mosquito-borne disease in the region.

The newly reported cases include two from Lahore, three from Rawalpindi, and one each from Okara, Sahiwal, and Rahim Yar Khan. The provincial health department has assured the public that all necessary measures for dengue prevention and treatment are in place. Government hospitals throughout Punjab are reportedly well-stocked with the required medicines to treat dengue patients.

Health officials are actively monitoring the situation and have emphasized the importance of early detection and prompt treatment to curb the spread of the disease. The department has also called on the public to take precautionary measures, such as eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed and using protective clothing and insect repellent to reduce the risk of bites.

The rise in cases underscores the need for continued vigilance and public cooperation in the fight against dengue. The health department has reiterated its commitment to addressing the situation and has urged people to seek medical attention immediately if they exhibit symptoms of dengue, such as high fever, severe headaches, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, and rash.

With the monsoon season in full swing, the risk of dengue transmission remains high, and health authorities are focused on both preventing new cases and providing timely treatment to those affected. Public awareness campaigns and community engagement are key components of the strategy to manage and mitigate the impact of dengue in Punjab.
