RAWALPIND: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has asserted that he has no current contact with the establishment and has emphasized that any future discussions will occur solely if deemed to be in the national interest. His remarks came after a court hearing at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail concerning the £190 million case against him.
Addressing the media informally, Imran Khan underscored the critical need for strong and effective institutions in Pakistan. He criticized the authorities’ approach, stating, “Only sheep and goats can be controlled with sticks, not humans. What they are doing is suicide,” indicating that the actions being taken are damaging to the country’s stability and governance.
Imran Khan also discussed his personal conditions in jail, describing his cell as being uncomfortably hot and likening it to an oven. Despite these harsh conditions, he noted, “I seek no relief.” Additionally, he expressed concern for the well-being of his wife, Bushra Bibi, highlighting that her room is infested with rats, which have even fallen from the ceiling while she prays.
In a broader critique, Imran Khan took issue with the leadership of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), questioning the credentials of Mohsin Naqvi. He alleged that Naqvi’s appointment was inappropriate given his previous involvement in a 2008 NAB case.
Reiterating his position on security and accountability, Imran Khan stated that if anything were to happen to him, the responsibility would rest with the Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) and the Army Chief. This statement underscores his ongoing concerns about the political and security dynamics affecting his situation and the broader implications for Pakistan’s governance.
