ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has announced a sweeping initiative to reform Pakistan Television (PTV), named “Operation Clean Up.” This major overhaul aims to address several key issues within the state-run broadcaster and enhance its operational standards.
Under this initiative, approximately 25 shows that have been identified as underperforming have been canceled. This move is part of a broader strategy to revamp PTV’s programming and align it more closely with contemporary standards of media excellence.
Tarar outlined the core objectives of “Operation Clean Up,” emphasizing a commitment to eliminating corruption, tackling incompetence, and addressing the proliferation of fake news. The new policy introduced under this initiative stresses the importance of transparency, professionalism, and constructive criticism in PTV’s operations.
To further enhance programming quality, the Minister announced plans to hire professional anchors and producers. This recruitment is intended to bring a new level of expertise and credibility to the broadcaster’s content.
Additionally, Tarar highlighted that the reforms would also involve countering malicious social media campaigns aimed at undermining the changes. The Minister underscored that measures would be put in place to address such negative campaigns and ensure the success of the overhaul.
This comprehensive approach reflects the government’s intention to transform PTV into a more effective and credible public service broadcaster, capable of meeting modern media standards and serving the public with integrity.
