Aleema Khan has openly questioned the motives behind the postponement, particularly targeting the decision-making processes within the party

ISLAMABAD: Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairperson Imran Khan, has made her foray into active politics, sources within the party confirmed on Saturday. Her recent activities include an unannounced visit to Peshawar and Mardan, where she engaged with imprisoned and disgruntled PTI workers. These workers voiced their frustrations, particularly against party leaders, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
During her visits, Aleema Khan committed to launching a campaign for the release of her brother, Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated. Her involvement comes amidst mounting criticisms of the current PTI leadership, which she accuses of lacking genuine intentions to secure his release. This criticism follows the postponement of a PTI rally scheduled for Tarnol, Islamabad. Aleema Khan has openly questioned the motives behind the postponement, particularly targeting the decision-making processes within the party. She scrutinized why PTI leader Azam Swati met Imran Khan early in the morning and who directed him to communicate the rally’s postponement.
Aleema expressed doubts about the practicality of such a meeting at Adiala Jail at 7:30 AM and suggested that the decision to cancel the rally was influenced by external pressures. She criticized the current PTI leadership for not confronting the party’s supporters directly and making unilateral decisions without consulting the party’s founder. In parallel, PTI is facing internal challenges, with the party having formed a committee to address these conflicts. Former President Arif Alvi has been appointed to head the committee.
According to sources, Alvi is expected to present recommendations within a week aimed at resolving ongoing disputes and reconciling differences within the party. His role will involve meeting with dissenting leaders to understand their concerns and work towards resolution. The party has recently faced escalating tensions, both at central and provincial levels. PTI has also revoked the basic membership of former Senior Vice President and National Assembly member Sher Afzal Marwat as part of its efforts to address internal dissent.
