Non allocation women quota, political parties summoned

ISLAMABAD: In a significant development aimed at enforcing election regulations, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned the leaders of various political parties to address issues related to compliance with electoral norms. The move comes in response to serious concerns about the failure to allocate 5 percent of general election tickets to women and other related violations.

On September 4, the ECP issued notices to prominent political figures from twelve different parties, including Akhtar Mengal of Balochistan National Party, Asfandyar Wali Khan of Awami National Party, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman of Jamaat-e-Islami, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Saad Rizvi, and Khurram Nawaz Gandapur of Awami Tehreek. The summons are part of an inquiry into non-compliance with electoral norms and regulations.

The ECP has also called upon the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan (JUI-P) for failing to conduct its intra-party elections as mandated by electoral regulations. JUI leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has been summoned to appear before the ECP tomorrow at 10 a.m. The hearing will be overseen by a four-member commission headed by Nisar Durrani. The JUI has faced criticism for not completing its intra-party elections and for failing to submit the required certification to the ECP. The ECP’s actions underscore its commitment to ensuring transparency and adherence to electoral procedures, addressing ongoing concerns about the integrity of the election process.
