SUKKUR: On Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Syed Ahmed Fawad Shah conducted a detailed review of several ongoing campaigns in the district, focusing on anti-polio measures, mosquito control, livestock protection, and post-rain activities.
The Deputy Commissioner reiterated the importance of the anti-polio campaign, which is scheduled to run from September 9 to September 15 across all Union Councils of the district. He stressed the necessity for cooperation from Union Council Chairmen, Town Committee Chairmen, and other local officials to ensure the success of the polio vaccination drive. Shah emphasized that routine immunization must be made more effective and expressed that any form of rejection or non-compliance would not be tolerated. He particularly highlighted the need to reach both rural and urban areas, including the remote regions of Khairpur.
In his directive, Shah instructed health officials to station polio teams at strategic locations such as railway stations, bus terminals, and other key points. He also stressed the importance of covering all nomadic workers, who migrate from various cities during the date harvesting season, to ensure they receive the polio vaccine. The meeting also addressed mosquito control efforts. Director of Local Government Zafar Iqbal reported that mosquito spray machines had been distributed to all Union Council Secretariats (USCs) and assured that any funding and operational issues would be resolved on a priority basis.
