ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has instructed police to locate and recover Umar Sultan, the former security chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, within one week. The directive comes as part of ongoing proceedings regarding a petition filed by Sultan Javed, Umar Sultan’s father, who claims his son was unlawfully detained on August 26 without a warrant.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, who presided over the case, directed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khan Zaib Khan to personally oversee the investigation. The court emphasized the need for detailed reports from police officials and urged them to provide full information on the detention. SSP Zaib confirmed that CCTV footage related to the case is currently under review.
Chief Justice Farooq highlighted the importance of police leadership in the investigation and advised the petitioner’s lawyer to cooperate fully by sharing any relevant information with law enforcement. The court also recommended coordination among all parties to ensure comprehensive communication and effective investigation. The hearing has been adjourned until next week, with the court scheduled to review further developments and determine subsequent actions based on the progress of the investigation and the availability of judges.
