ISLAMABAD: On Saturday, the government announced a substantial increase in the prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for September 2024, a move expected to affect households across the country. As per the official notification, the price of LPG has been raised by Rs 6.99 per kilogram, resulting in an increase of Rs 82.54 for a standard domestic cylinder.
The new pricing structure sets the cost of a domestic LPG cylinder at Rs 2,879.10, up from the previous price of Rs 2,796.56 in August. These revised prices are set to take effect from September 1, according to the notification. This hike in LPG prices is likely to place additional strain on household budgets, particularly for families who rely on LPG as their primary source of cooking fuel. The price increase is primarily attributed to fluctuations in international oil markets, coupled with rising costs associated with the import and distribution of LPG in Pakistan.
Families already grappling with inflation may find this increase particularly burdensome, further intensifying the pressure on household finances. The government’s decision to raise LPG prices has sparked concerns among consumers and industry observers, who fear that the upward trend in energy costs could have ripple effects across various sectors, exacerbating the cost of living for many Pakistanis.
