Mikhail Shuvalov, head of the Kashira city district, confirmed that there were no fires, damage, or casualties resulting from the attack

MOSCOW: On Sunday, Ukraine launched a series of drone strikes aimed at power and refinery facilities in Russia’s Moscow and Tver regions. Despite the scale of the operation, Russian defenses proved effective, neutralizing the majority of the drones and minimizing damage.
According to Russian officials and media, significant explosions were reported near the Konakovo Power Station in the Tver region. This facility is a major energy producer in central Russia. However, Tver Governor Igor Rudenya confirmed that five drones were intercepted and destroyed without causing any reported damage. In the Moscow region, a drone targeting the Moscow Oil Refinery was successfully neutralized.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin assured that the refinery, operated by Gazprom Neft, faced no disruption or damage to its operations. The refinery, situated in southeastern Moscow, remains fully operational. Additionally, the Kashira Power Plant was targeted by three drones. Mikhail Shuvalov, head of the Kashira city district, confirmed that there were no fires, damage, or casualties resulting from the attack. He noted that electricity supply continues without any issues.
Overall, Russian authorities reported the destruction of at least nine drones in Moscow and surrounding areas. The Bryansk region saw the interception of 26 drones, while more than ten were downed over the Voronezh region. Additional interceptions were reported over Kursk, Lipetsk, Ryazan, and Tula regions. The efficient response of Russian air defenses mitigated the potential impact of these attacks.
While Ukrainian officials have not commented on the effectiveness of the strikes, Russia’s robust defense mechanisms ensured that the targeted infrastructure remained intact and operational. The attacks underscore Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to target Russian energy and military infrastructure but also highlight the resilience and effectiveness of Russia’s air defense systems. The Ukrainian drone strikes come amid ongoing discussions in Kyiv about expanding their offensive capabilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his senior officials have been actively seeking permission from the United States to use allied-supplied weapons for deeper strikes into Russian territory. As Ukraine’s domestic drone industry grows, it continues to focus on disrupting key sectors supporting Russia’s military operations. Russian authorities remain vigilant and committed to defending critical infrastructure, demonstrating the effectiveness of their defensive measures against such aerial threats.
