PUNJAB: Punjab has reported 10 new cases of dengue fever in the past 24 hours, according to the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department. The new cases include five in Lahore, four in Rawalpindi, and one in Chakwal, bringing the total number of dengue infections in the province this year to 357.
Health officials noted that 54 cases have been reported in the past week alone. Despite this, authorities have assured that all necessary measures to combat dengue are in place. Government hospitals across Punjab are stocked with essential medicines for treating dengue patients. The health department is closely monitoring the situation and has urged for increased public awareness to prevent further spread of the disease.
The rise in cases coincides with ongoing issues related to stagnant rainwater in Lahore and other cities, which has created breeding grounds for dengue-carrying mosquitoes. Local administrations have faced challenges in promptly draining water from dengue hotspots, with reports indicating that some areas and educational institutions are still affected by standing water.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has held meetings with relevant officials to address the situation. However, anti-dengue efforts have not yet been sufficiently intensified. The presence of dengue larvae detected by surveillance teams underscores the need for a more robust provincial response to tackle the outbreak effectively.
