KHYBER: ANP Provincial President Mian Iftekhar Hussain has strongly called for the respectful and immediate return of the displaced Kuki Khel families to their homes in the Tirah Valley. Speaking at a significant public sit-in gathering in Begyari, Jamrud, Hussain emphasized the prolonged suffering of these families, displaced for over twelve years, and demanded their dignified repatriation. Flanked by party leadership, he questioned the lack of peace in the scenic Tirah Valley, despite the border with Afghanistan being fenced.
“Why is there still unrest in Tirah Valley? The fencing should have brought security, yet the peace remains elusive,” Mian Iftekhar stated, highlighting the broader implications of the ongoing turmoil in the region. He commended the Kuki Khel tribe for their steadfastness, noting that their sit-in, now in its 29th day, has garnered widespread support across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Hussain expressed disappointment at the lack of police escort for his procession, interpreting it as a deliberate attempt to discourage discussions about the pressing issues faced by the people of Tirah.
ANP Provincial General Secretary Hasan Shah, addressing the gathering, condemned the state’s neglect of the displaced Kuki Khel families. He demanded their return under conditions as favorable as those extended to the displaced people of Swat during the military operation under the ANP-led government. Shah also called for compensation to help the displaced families rebuild their homes in Tirah Valley, stressing that the state should not treat these families unjustly. The ANP leaders pointed out the correlation between the presence of natural resources in the erstwhile FATA and the ongoing security issues, implying that these resources could be a significant factor hindering peace in the tribal areas. They contrasted the swift return of displaced Swat residents with the prolonged displacement of the Kuki Khel tribe, criticizing the previous PTI government for negotiating with terrorists and compromising the region’s stability.
