Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi lauds officers for courageous defense amidst surge in violence

MIANWALI: In a significant counter-terrorism success, the Punjab police have thwarted a planned assault by suspected terrorists on a checkpoint in Mianwali, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Monday. The attack was carried out by members of the terrorist group “Khawarij” who targeted a police post near Isa Khel under the cover of darkness.
The police officers stationed at the checkpoint displayed exceptional bravery and resolve, managing to force the group of 14 militants to retreat. Interior Minister Naqvi commended the officers for their professionalism and heroism. “Commendations to the brave officers who demonstrated outstanding bravery and efficiency,” Naqvi said, underscoring the vital role of the Punjab police in the ongoing battle against terrorism. This successful interception comes amid a period of intense violence across Pakistan. The past week has been marked by one of the deadliest waves of attacks in recent years, with over 70 fatalities reported.
Coordinated assaults in Balochistan targeted police stations, railway lines, and highways, further exacerbating the crisis. In North Waziristan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a roadside bomb explosion claimed four lives and left twelve others injured. Additionally, a separate incident in Dera Ismail Khan district last month saw the abduction of Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Ameer and his relatives. They were subsequently released, as confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The Punjab police’s thwarting of the terrorist attack underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies and highlights their critical role in maintaining national security amidst rising threats.
