KARACHI: The Chairman of Muhajir Qaumi Movement Afaq Ahmed has paid tribute to a courageous plumber who risked his life to save two children. Afaq Ahmed emphasized the importance of recognizing such acts of bravery at the governmental level and called for the brave plumber to be honored with a national award.
Afaq Ahmed visited the tragic site at Fawara Chowk, where two innocent children and the plumber lost their lives due to government negligence. He met with the bereaved families of the children who tragically died after falling into a well-constructed for water boring. During his visit, he expressed his heartfelt condolences and prayed for the strength and patience of the families to bear this immense loss.
The families informed Afaq Ahmed that the plumber heroically attempted to rescue the children by tying himself to a rope and descending into the well. Unfortunately, the rope broke midway, causing the plumber to fall into the well and suffer injuries. Despite his calls for help, emergency services, including the fire brigade, failed to arrive for over five hours, leading to the untimely deaths of the children and the plumber.
Afaq Ahmed also attended the funeral of the brave plumber and met with his father, offering his deepest sympathies and commending the plumber’s heroism and selfless spirit. He urged the government to immediately provide financial assistance to the affected families and to conduct a thorough investigation into the institutional failures that led to this tragedy, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
Furthermore, Afaq Ahmed criticized the government for often awarding national honors to entertainers while neglecting true heroes. He called on both the federal and provincial governments to recognize the extraordinary bravery of the plumber, who sacrificed his life for others, by awarding him a national honor, thereby encouraging such noble deeds in society.
