ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, addressing the Pakistan Humanitarian Forum (PHF) annual report launch event on Tuesday, underscored the urgent need for a unified approach to human development, investment in human capital, and climate change mitigation. In his speech, Chairman Gilani highlighted the necessity of forging strong partnerships between government institutions, UN agencies, and civil society organizations to ensure a cohesive and effective humanitarian response. He praised the efforts of PHF and its member organizations for their consistent and impactful relief efforts in challenging circumstances over the years.
“The true strength of a nation lies in its ability to empower marginalized and vulnerable communities,” Chairman Gilani remarked. Drawing from his experiences in South Punjab, he expressed a deep understanding of the struggles faced by underprivileged communities and emphasized that inclusive development is crucial for national progress. He noted that his political ideology has always been guided by humanitarian values and the betterment of deprived communities, a belief championed by former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Chairman Gilani commended PHF for its vital role in fostering a more inclusive and resilient Pakistan. Referring to the achievements outlined in the Annual Report 2023, he acknowledged the remarkable work done by PHF member organizations. The report highlights that these organizations have reached over 21.2 million beneficiaries across 152 districts of Pakistan, with a funding volume surpassing 450 million dollars. These efforts have not only alleviated the suffering of flood-affected communities but have also laid the foundation for sustainable development in marginalized areas.
