KARACHI: The spokesperson for MQM Pakistan has issued a robust rebuttal to recent criticisms from Murtaza Wahab, who has been questioning the Sindh government’s management of Karachi’s resources. In a pointed response, the MQM spokesperson highlighted the severe deterioration of Karachi’s infrastructure, accusing the Sindh government of failing to maintain essential services and facilities in the city.
The spokesperson lambasted the condition of Karachi’s roads, hospitals, schools, colleges, and sewage systems, suggesting that these critical components of the city’s infrastructure have been left in disrepair. “Murtaza Wahab seems to be walking through the city with blinders on,” the spokesperson quipped, implying that Wahab’s assessments and actions are disconnected from the reality of the city’s dire situation.
Criticism was further directed at the Sindh government for alleged corruption and nepotism. The MQM spokesperson claimed that the populace of Karachi is increasingly frustrated with the government’s inefficacy and mismanagement. They argued that despite Karachi’s substantial tax and revenue contributions to both national and provincial treasuries, the city does not receive an equitable share of resources or funding.
The MQM spokesperson raised concerns about the Provincial Finance Commission (PFC) and questioned whether Murtaza Wahab is securing Karachi’s rightful share of the funds. They suggested that the funds allocated to Karachi through the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award are not being properly utilized or distributed by the Sindh government.
In their statement, MQM Pakistan demanded that Wahab ensure that Karachi receives its due share of resources and called for a push to empower local governments throughout Pakistan, emphasizing the need for effective governance and accountability. The spokesperson also reiterated MQM’s long-standing claim as the principal representative of urban Sindh, challenging the Sindh government to account for the disparity between what Karachi has contributed over the past fifty years and what it has received in return.
This exchange underscores ongoing tensions between MQM Pakistan and the Sindh government over issues of resource allocation, governance, and the management of Karachi’s infrastructure. The MQM’s response reflects deep-seated frustrations with what they perceive as systemic issues within the provincial administration, and their call for greater accountability and reform remains a central theme in their political discourse.
