KARACHI: In a tragic development, the body of a 26-year-old woman identified as Fatima was discovered at her residence in Landhi’s Sherpao Colony, Karachi, with evident signs of physical assault. The discovery was made on Tuesday following a tip-off from neighbors. Fatima, a mother of two, was found inside a Suzuki vehicle, which was initially reported as being used by her estranged husband, Nauman, to transport her body to the hospital.
However, upon investigation, authorities noted visible injury marks on Fatima’s face and neck, raising concerns about potential foul play. Initial examinations suggest possible strangulation, evident from the marks on her neck. Nauman, who has been detained by police, claims that he had recently divorced Fatima and that a dispute over unpaid Haq Mehr—a traditional dowry payment involving two tolas of gold—escalated into a confrontation on Sunday. He asserts that Fatima took her own life during the argument.
Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. The body has been sent to Jinnah Hospital for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. SHO Ghulam Hussain Peerzada has stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided once the post-mortem results are available. Nauman remains in police custody as the authorities continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding Fatima’s death. The community and family await clarity on the case, which has already elicited significant concern and sympathy from the public.
