RAWALPINDI: Ayesha Raza Farooq, the Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication, took a proactive role today in monitoring the ongoing polio immunization campaign in Rawalpindi. Her visit to Union Council CTR-5 in Habib Colony, Rawalpindi Cantonment, highlighted the government’s commitment to eliminating the disease from the country.
Accompanied by the District Commissioner and other officials, Farooq engaged directly with the polio teams, personally commending Area Incharge Abbas and UCMO Muhammad Ishaq for their unwavering dedication to the national cause. This visit was more than a routine inspection; it was a demonstration of the government’s resolve to ensure the success of the September polio immunization campaign.

Farooq’s presence signified the Prime Minister’s emphasis on reaching every child, particularly in high-risk areas. The polio teams, often working under challenging circumstances, were praised for their tireless efforts, while local health authorities in Rawalpindi and Islamabad were recognized for their leadership in this vital public health initiative.
Despite notable progress in routine immunisation across the region, Farooq stressed that certain areas still show pockets of low immunity, posing a significant risk to the overall eradication effort. She called for sustained focus and immediate action in addressing these gaps, urging high-quality campaigns and improved routine immunisation efforts to prevent any resurgence of the disease.
Her message to parents was clear: vigilance is key, and no child should be left unvaccinated in this fight against polio. The Prime Minister’s Focal Person’s involvement highlights Pakistan’s national commitment to eradicating polio, a goal that requires the collective efforts of the government, health workers, and the public.
