ISLAMABAD: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has alleged that PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur spent the entire night at the Kohsar Complex asking for forgiveness. Asif made these remarks during a session of the National Assembly, which was presided over by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
Addressing a point of order, Asif criticized Gandapur, labeling him “a two-faced man” and urging others to be wary of him. “We don’t need to ask, but they should inquire what Ali Amin Gandapur was doing all night at the Kohsar Complex,” Asif said.
The minister also expressed his dissatisfaction with recent meetings of a parliamentary special committee, alleging that it was preoccupied with resolving PTI’s issues rather than addressing broader parliamentary concerns. Asif announced his decision to step down from the committee, stating that it was not fulfilling its intended purpose. “I don’t want to be part of a committee that is constantly rehashing old grievances,” he added.
Further, Asif took the opportunity to criticize PTI’s handling of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during its tenure, urging the party to reflect on its actions over the past four years. He condemned how PTI treated leaders like Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, asserting that their treatment “set no precedent.”
Reiterating his point on Gandapur, Asif remarked, “Gandapur spent the entire night asking for forgiveness, yet we don’t trust him.” The National Assembly session was later adjourned until 3 p.m. the following day.
In a separate conversation with journalists, Khawaja Asif reflected on his own experiences in detention, saying, “We also endured six to seven months in jail. I’m unsure if any arrests were made within Parliament; it seems they occurred outside.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining dignity during arrests, noting, “Even during my imprisonment, I met my children in handcuffs. This isn’t unique to Pakistan—it happens everywhere.”
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had been unaccounted for following a PTI rally on Sunday on the outskirts of Islamabad. Barrister Saif had expressed concerns early the next day, stating that attempts to reach Gandapur had failed and his phone numbers were switched off. Later that day, Gandapur reappeared at the Chief Minister House in Peshawar after being out of contact for more than eight hours. His disappearance coincided with a police crackdown on PTI’s top leadership, which was triggered by violations that occurred during Sunday’s rally in Islamabad.
