PESHAWAR: In a bid to maintain discipline and prevent misuse, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police have imposed a sweeping ban on the use of social media platforms by its officers. The directive, which applies to all regional, city, and district police officers (RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs), prohibits the use of TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp during duty hours.
The move comes in response to incidents involving police officers’ social media activities that have raised concerns about professionalism and operational focus. The ban is aimed at curbing distractions and ensuring that officers remain dedicated to their responsibilities while on duty. The crackdown on social media misuse follows a recent case in Karachi, where a man was arrested for impersonating a police officer and creating TikTok videos.
Identified as Atif alias Vicky Babu, the suspect was apprehended by Al-Falah police during a routine patrol. Babu, who had gained notoriety for his viral videos, was found filming content while dressed in a police uniform. He has been charged, and a case has been registered against him at the Al-Falah police station. The K-P police’s decision aligns with similar actions taken by law enforcement agencies in other regions. On September 4, two police constables in Sindh faced suspension for creating TikTok videos while on duty. The videos, which went viral, prompted swift action from the police leadership.
