KARACHI: Senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) and Member of the National Assembly, Syed Mustafa Kamal, took to the floor of the National Assembly to address the prevailing political climate and the behavior of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers.
Kamal emphasized that MQM-P has consistently maintained that the ruling party should not take offense at the opposition’s concerns and should understand their constraints given the current circumstances. He expressed his belief that PTI members are essentially powerless, as they are compelled to follow directives from their leader in jail and cannot even reassure him with false claims of having resolved issues.
Kamal further criticized the PTI leadership for not aligning with the principles of consensus and understanding, which he believes is contrary to the disposition of PTI’s founder. He remarked that the leader’s decision to place PTI members in parliament while remaining incarcerated himself reflects a disconnect between the party’s internal dynamics and its public messaging.
According to Kamal, the practice of prioritizing personal ego over national interests has become commonplace among leaders, and the discord between the PTI members’ and their founder’s views on legislative agreements is evident. He praised the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for demonstrating political acumen, and noted that MQM-P has set an example by prioritizing the country’s interests over personal ambitions.
Kamal urged democratic forces to recognize that the nation is more important than any individual personality. He concluded by appealing to PTI members to adhere strictly to their leader’s directives to prevent further damage from misguided decisions, suggesting that the greatest harm caused by these decisions impacts the party itself. Kamal’s remarks reflect the ongoing tensions within Pakistani politics and underscore the MQM-P’s stance on prioritizing national over personal or party interests in navigating the country’s complex political landscape.
