KARACHI: In a gathering on Friday aimed at fostering collaboration between the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), key proposals were put forward to enhance cooperation between the two main players of the society industry and educational institution respectively.
After, the chief guest, President Aga Khan University Dr. Sulaiman Shahbuddin addressed the audience, a series of suggestions were made for consideration. Firstly, it was proposed to establish a facilitation desk at AKU Hospital specifically for the members of the FPCCI. The desk would serve as a dedicated point of contact, facilitating smoother interactions and enhancing professional relations between FPCCI and AKUH. While this initiative falls under the jurisdiction of the CEO of AKU Hospital, Dr Sulaiman requested that this proposal be communicated to him, emphasizing its potential to streamline the emergency admission process and improve access to essential services for Pakistan’s largest business community organization.
Additionally, it was suggested that Aga Khan University extends invitations to FPCCI members for convocations and significant seminars. In turn, FPCCI would reciprocate this gesture by inviting AKU officials and offering internship opportunities for medical students within the pharmaceutical industry. This mutual engagement aims to strengthen the ties between academia and industry, fostering a collaborative environment that benefits all parties involved.
Moreover, the Pakistan-Kazakhstan Business Forum representative expressed interest in establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a renowned hospital in Karachi. Given the rising costs of medical tourism in countries such as the USA, UK, Singapore, and Dubai, along with the overburdened healthcare facilities in India, Pakistan presents an attractive alternative destination for medical services. AKUH’s extensive experience in Africa was also highlighted as a valuable asset, and the speaker suggested that AKUH be considered for this partnership.
Should this proposal gain traction, there is an opportunity to connect the Pakistan-Kazakhstan Business Council with the AKUH team, potentially expanding AKUH’s services to the resource-rich Central Asian states. As discussions continue, the speaker urged all parties to seize these opportunities for collaboration and innovation. By integrating public and private professional institutions, a foundation for a healthier and more secure future can be established, particularly benefitting the business community.
