KARACHI: In a vibrant celebration of cultural heritage, the Iranian Consulate, in collaboration with the Consumer Association of Pakistan, hosted the distinguished food festival titled “Two Nations, One Taste” in Karachi. This remarkable event brought together diplomats, government officials, and culinary experts from both Iran and Pakistan, underscoring the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.
The festival attracted a plethora of notable attendees, including members of the National Assembly such as Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig and Shazia Atta Marri, alongside provincial ministers Sharjeel Memon, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani, Zulfiqar Ali Shah, and Jam Ikramullah Dharejo. Diplomats from China, Turkey, Russia, Oman, and Indonesia were also in attendance, reflecting the international interest in the rich culinary traditions of both countries.

The event featured prominent chefs from Iran and Pakistan, who showcased an array of dishes that celebrate the shared gastronomic heritage. Iranian Consul General Dr. Hassan Nourian addressed the gathering, extending warm greetings to the Muslim world on the occasion of Rabi-ul-Awwal, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In his remarks, Dr. Nourian emphasized the longstanding cultural and historical connections between Iran and Pakistan, noting the affection that Pakistanis hold for the Persian language. “Both nations share a profound literary bond, with revered poets like Rumi and Hafiz inspiring both cultures. Furthermore, Ramadan and Eid are celebrated with equal fervor in our societies,” he stated.
Highlighting the culinary parallels, Dr. Nourian pointed out the common use of spices that characterize both Iranian and Pakistani cuisines, resulting in beloved dishes such as biryani, korma, and kebabs. He expressed optimism about the burgeoning trade relations between the two nations, particularly in the tourism sector, where both countries are making significant advancements.

Director General of Foreign Affairs, Irfan Soomro, also took the podium, reinforcing the historical ties that bind Iran and Pakistan. “Our nations have continuously endeavored to strengthen their relations, and today’s event stands as a testament to the enduring and evolving bond between us,” he asserted. Kaukab Iqbal, who played a pivotal role in facilitating the event, expressed his gratitude to all attendees, stating, “Today’s gathering reflects the deepening ties between Pakistan and Iran. I am thankful to all the participants for contributing to the success of this event.”
The festival culminated in speeches from provincial minister Sharjeel Memon and other dignitaries, with honorary shields presented by the Iranian Consulate to individuals recognized for their significant contributions to the cultural exchange. As the festival concluded, it not only celebrated the rich culinary traditions of Iran and Pakistan but also served as a reminder of the powerful cultural ties that continue to flourish between the two nations.
