Party cites high electricity rates and industrial closures in Karachi

HYDERABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has called on the federal government to cancel its agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), alleging that they are selling electricity at exorbitant rates through distribution companies.
During a press conference at the Hyderabad Press Club on Monday, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Industries and Production, MNA Syed Hafeezuddin, criticized the IPPs for contributing to the closure of industries in Karachi and Hyderabad. He stated, “Pakistan’s circular debt has surpassed Rs2,000 billion, yet there is no accountability for the hundreds of billions of rupees collected from electricity consumers.”
