PTI founder accuses detractors of twisting the narrative based on a recent Israeli newspaper article

RAWALPINDI: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, has vehemently denied allegations that he advocates for establishing relations with Israel, characterizing such claims as a distortion of reality stemming from a recent article in an Israeli newspaper. Speaking to the media from Adiala Jail on Monday, Khan described the allegations as part of a “propaganda campaign” against him.
“Since yesterday, there has been a propaganda blitz, citing an Israeli newspaper that I am the biggest advocate for relations with Israel,” Khan stated. “These claims are absurd. The article did mention me, but clearly, some people do not understand English.” The article in question, published by The Jerusalem Post, speculated on Khan’s influence in the Muslim world and its potential impact on Pakistan’s foreign policy, particularly concerning Israel. However, Khan reaffirmed his unwavering support for Palestine, stating, “My stance on Israel has not changed. The Palestinian people are enduring genocide. Any discussions with Israel are contingent upon a ceasefire and a genuine commitment to a two-state solution.”
Khan attributed the misinterpretation of the article to his political adversaries, who, he claimed, are seeking to undermine his credibility amid a fraught political landscape. His remarks come in response to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent call for unity and cooperation to guide the nation toward development. Khan sharply countered, asserting, “Shehbaz Sharif, listen carefully: peace is a by-product of justice. The elections were blatantly rigged, PTI workers were thrown in jail after the May 9 events, and yet no serious investigations are underway. Without justice, there can be no peace.”
Moreover, Khan expressed concerns regarding proposed constitutional amendments, warning that they would further destabilize the country. He criticized the Chief Justice and Chief Election Commissioner, likening them to “umpires who are also opening batsmen,” implying a lack of impartiality in their roles. “The third umpire, who is essentially the captain of their team, is orchestrating everything from behind the scenes,” he alleged, suggesting covert manipulation of the political process.
The former premier raised alarm over alleged electoral fraud and the withholding of CCTV footage from the May 9 events, which he believes protects the establishment from scrutiny. Drawing parallels with General Yahya Khan’s regime, Khan accused the current government of dismantling democracy and the social fabric to obscure electoral malpractices. “This group is leading the country towards a crisis similar to that of Yahya Khan’s era. Economic instability is increasing, debt is piling up, and investors are reluctant to engage. People are leaving the country in droves,” he warned.
