Organized by Bhittai Social Watch & Advocacy (BSWA) in collaboration with the Sindh Human Rights Commission and the United States Institute of Peace, the event aimed to address the pressing issues facing women and minorities in Northern Sindh.
The panel featured prominent speakers, including Prof. Dr. Samiullah Sohu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. (Rtd.) Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Academic Advisor at BSWA; Shagufta, Lecturer in the Department of Business Administration; and Sohail Asghar. “Promoting social harmony is essential in our society,” the speakers asserted. They underscored the importance of shared values and norms to foster an inclusive democracy, noting that a democratic culture encourages tolerance, dialogue, and constructive discussions.
In addressing climate change, the panelists shared strategies to mitigate its adverse effects. They advocated for a climate action program that includes massive tree planting initiatives and measures to control vehicular emissions. Additionally, they highlighted the necessity for climate justice and compensation for developing countries, particularly Pakistan, which is disproportionately affected by climate-related challenges.
Dr. Ayaz Ali Maitlo served as the moderator for the dialogue, guiding discussions on these critical issues. Khadim Hussain Mirani extended the vote of thanks to Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Usman Keerio and his team for their efforts in organizing this significant event. The symposium concluded with a shared commitment to promoting women’s rights, fostering social harmony, and addressing the pressing challenges of climate change and justice.
