KARACHI: Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Chairman of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Federal Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, has voiced unwavering support for the Young Doctors Association (YDA) and affected students concerning alleged malpractices in the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT).
In a recent statement, Dr. Siddiqui expressed deep concern over the premature release of exam papers, the inclusion of non-curricular questions, and various irregularities that have led to significant frustration among students. He commended the judiciary for intervening by issuing a stay on the MDCAT results, deeming this action essential for alleviating the anxiety experienced by students during this tumultuous period. “Students should be promoted solely on merit, and we cannot allow certain elements to undermine this merit-based system,” he remarked.
Dr. Siddiqui hailed the Sindh High Court’s decision to halt the results as a significant victory for the rightful cause of students, the YDA, and the parents of the affected candidates. Acknowledging the efforts of MQM-P legislators, including Senate Standing Committee on Health Chairman Amir Chishti, Dr. Nighat Shakeel, Sabin Ghori, and Farhan Chishti, he highlighted their roles in strategizing around admissions and addressing the court case. He also praised the work of Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly, Ali Khurshidi, and other MQM-P members in formulating plans to tackle the situation effectively.
Dr. Siddiqui underscored the importance of transparent investigations into the irregularities and corruption surrounding the MDCAT, calling on the federal government, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and other relevant institutions to take immediate action. His statement reflects a growing consensus on the need for accountability and integrity within the examination process, aiming to restore trust among students and parents alike.
