KHYBER: The Hajji Caravan, supported by Haji Shah Ji Gul Afridi, has opposed the proposed name change of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the constitutional amendment, stating that billions of rupees would be wasted on the name change, which is unnecessary. “The removal of ‘Khyber’ from the name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is unacceptable,” said the leaders of Hajji Caravan in an emergency press conference held in Jamrud.
During the press conference at the Jamrud Press Club, the leadership of Hajji Caravan from Jamrud Tehsil and Khyber District expressed strong concerns over the possible proposal to remove “Khyber” from the name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, labeling it an attack on Pashtun culture and history. The leadership stated that removing “Khyber” from the province’s name is a conspiracy to erase its identity, which will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Acting Chairman of Jamrud Tehsil, Azmat Afridi, along with Sanaullah Afridi, Abdul Jalil Afridi, Malik Khalid Afridi, Zohaib Afridi, Tariq Afridi, Adnan Khan, Mirza Ali Afridi, Islam Badshah Afridi, Najeeb Afridi, Shaukat Afridi, and Sabit Afridi, addressed the press conference, stating that “Khyber” is not only a historical region but also a symbol of Pashtun culture, honor, and bravery. The region’s history spans thousands of years, and the name “Khyber” has always represented the identity of Pashtuns on the global stage.
