ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has successfully dispatched its 13th shipment of humanitarian aid to Gaza and Lebanon, continuing the country’s efforts to support those affected by the ongoing conflict in the region. This latest consignment, which comprises 100 tons of winterized tents and blankets, departed from Islamabad and will be sent to Amman, Jordan, before reaching its final destination in Gaza. With this shipment, Pakistan’s total relief contributions have now reached an impressive 1,381 tons of essential supplies.
The send-off ceremony at Islamabad International Airport was attended by notable figures, including Parliamentarian Barrister Aqeel Malik, Palestinian Ambassador to Pakistan Zuhair M. H. Darzaid, as well as representatives from the NDMA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Armed Forces. Officials at the event underscored the urgent need for humanitarian assistance in Gaza and Lebanon, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to aiding vulnerable communities. Ambassador Darzaid expressed profound gratitude for Pakistan’s support, characterizing the aid as a vital lifeline and a testament to the solidarity and unity between the nations.
In addition to these shipments, Pakistan has launched the “Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Gaza and Lebanon,” designed to collect public donations for communities affected by the conflict. This initiative includes a total of 10 aid shipments to Gaza and two to Lebanon, alongside the successful evacuation of 71 Pakistani nationals from the conflict zone.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on the public, particularly affluent individuals, to contribute generously to the relief fund, emphasizing the importance of humanitarian assistance in these troubled areas. He has also instructed Pakistani ambassadors in Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt to prioritize the distribution of aid to ensure that it effectively reaches those in need. The Prime Minister has urged media outlets to raise awareness about the relief efforts and has pledged that the Government of Pakistan will support NGOs working to deliver assistance to the affected populations.
In a further demonstration of solidarity, Prime Minister Shehbaz welcomed a group of Palestinian students to Pakistan, offering them free education and comprehensive support during their stay. During a ceremony in Islamabad, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Palestinians, especially those affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza. He emphasized, “Pakistan is your second home, and we will ensure your stay here is comfortable,” while highlighting the importance of providing quality education at no cost.
