ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has stated that no actions can be taken regarding reserved seats until the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issues an official notification. In an interview with Geo News, Sadiq addressed concerns about members who have joined the Sunni Ittehad Council, questioning how they can retroactively switch to another party.
He emphasized that amendments to election laws have been made, making such maneuvers impossible. Sadiq further raised a critical point regarding the power dynamics in the country’s governance: “If the Supreme Court can amend the Constitution, does Parliament not hold that right as well?”
His remarks underscore the ongoing complexities surrounding electoral processes and party affiliations in Pakistan, particularly as the country prepares for upcoming elections. The Speaker’s emphasis on the ECP’s role highlights the significance of procedural adherence in the political landscape, while also prompting discussions about the broader authority of parliamentary bodies in the face of judicial powers.
