KARACHI: Sharjeel Inam Memon, a prominent figure within the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has officially launched a pivotal transportation initiative known as the Yellow Line, which aims to significantly enhance public transport in Karachi. With an investment exceeding 100 billion rupees, this project marks a crucial step towards addressing the city’s longstanding transportation challenges.
During a recent media interaction, Memon outlined that the Yellow Line will span approximately 21 kilometers and will be developed under a public-private partnership model. He expressed enthusiasm about the potential for transitioning the fleet to electric buses (EVs), indicating plans to collaborate with the World Bank for financial and technical support in this ambitious endeavor. This move not only aims to modernize Karachi’s transport system but also aligns with global trends towards sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.
Memon further emphasized the urgency of the project, revealing that the contractor has committed to completing the Yellow Line within an 18-month timeframe. However, he urged for a more expedited timeline to ensure that residents of Karachi benefit from improved transport options as soon as possible. “Our goal is to provide the best possible transport options. This rapid transport system is a blessing,” he stated, reflecting the PPP’s broader commitment to development across various sectors.
In addition to transportation, Memon highlighted ongoing efforts in health, housing, and other departments, asserting that the focus of the PPP is on delivering tangible results rather than making mere promises. His remarks signal an intention to not only enhance infrastructure but also improve the quality of life for Karachi’s residents through comprehensive development initiatives.
