Five dead, 10 injured as Israel hits Lebanon’s city of Tyre

BEIRUT: The Israeli military launched a strike on Tyre, a historic coastal city in southern Lebanon, killing at least five people and injuring ten more, according to Lebanon’s health ministry. The early morning strike reportedly targeted a residential building, collapsing it entirely and setting it ablaze. Emergency personnel were seen rushing survivors to ambulances while fire crews worked to contain the heavy smoke and flames. The rescue effort to recover potential survivors and victims trapped under the rubble remains ongoing, with teams carefully combing through the devastated site.

Tyre, renowned for its ancient ruins and its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site, has been severely impacted by Israel’s intensified air strikes on Hezbollah strongholds. In recent weeks, Tyre has experienced relentless bombardments, reducing much of its central area to rubble. These strikes have escalated following the broader regional tensions sparked by the Gaza war. Last month, Israel launched more frequent air and ground operations targeting Hezbollah positions, intensifying the cross-border confrontations with the Iran-backed group.

This surge in violence marks a significant escalation in the already volatile region, drawing international concern over the mounting humanitarian crisis and the risk of a wider regional conflict. As the strikes continue to displace and endanger civilians, there is a rising urgency for diplomatic intervention to de-escalate the situation and prevent further loss of life.
